Almaden Cabana Board Meeting

  1. Events:
    Becky has everything ready for Salsa night. It will be catered for 150 people. Becky requested Events be budgeted at $3,000 (as it was in the past) rather than $1,700 as it is now. If there are going to be more events this summer, more money is needed. Becky also requested help for the 4th of July Extravaganza . July 3rd @7pm to decorate, and volunteers to run the snow cones, cotton candy, etc. on the 4th beginning at 12:00pm.

  2. Director:
    Larry brought up the idea of morning party rentals. August 13th is the last day for pool rentals. Dates already rented are on the cabana website. The current rules regarding rentals that were voted on via email stand. The rental time that is paid for includes set-up. (No Additional unpaid time for set-up allowed.) Two lifeguards at all times stands.

  3. Vice President:
    Carole had no official news t report.

  4. Treasurer:
    Lilly had no official news to report.

  5. Pool & Grounds:
    Don reported that the sprinklers have been repaired and the new sod is in place. The heater has been repaired. The chlorine storage needs to be upgraded. The heaters will continue to corrode if the contained are not closed. Julie will take a CPO Course that will certify her as a Certified Pool Operator. The board will pay the $200 fee.

  6. Welcome:
    Dia provided copy and photos for the new Cabana brochure.

  7. Swim team:
    Patty Gahagen reported that the swim season is going well, and that they are happy overall with the team members. CHAMPS is on July 17th at Saratoga High school.

  8. Secretary & WAVES:
    Cynthia reported that the deadline for the next WAVES is July 1, 2004.

  9. Pool Manager:
    Julie provided a spreadsheet with the wages for lifeguards in the area. The Cabana pays on the low end. A motion was passed for Julie to give raises based on performance. Presently, Cabana guards earn $7.50 - $10.00 per hour. This will be raised to $8.00 - $11.00 per hour. Julie can perform job reviews after 30 days. She will write job description and the criteria for raises. The Guards must wear red and white . no other colors. The Board already purchased guard suits for the season. If guards want additional official shorts or tops, they can purchase them. Only uniformed guards on duty can be requested to perform duties, not guards off duty. If pool members have a request for a guard, they must ask the manager (Julie) first.

  10. Personnel:
    Chris asked about keys. All of the head Guards have keys, and there are keys in the office. A head guard will be on duty at all times.
